WNYOA Families, Spectators,
Racers and Pit Crews,
To the few injured riders
our thoughts are with you for speedy healing. Speaking for the
helpers of Majestic Trails, I can not thank all of you enough
for understanding what a burden the rain put on all of us
(Course workers, Scanners, Campground parkers) trying to create
a perfect race and family experience. We appreciate the many
compliments about the course layout and increased safety factor.
We thank you for your positive feedback considering the last
minute changes forced upon us because the rain just would not
give us a break. We listened to your comments from last year
and made changes based on your suggestions. We noted your
continued suggestions for improvement and look forward to making
those few changes to get closer to pleasing every type of racer.
There are hundreds
of details and decisions that take place by the promoter’s
team prior and during the event. We appreciate your
understanding in restarting the Mini’s. It was an easy and
quick decision because it was the right one.
Long after the majority was
on their way back home, several families patiently waited as we
pulled their trucks, trailers and RV’s out of the former
fields of grass. It’s a devastating scene of foot deep ruts,
trash and small ponds of water forming as a result of clogged
ditches and collapsed drain pipes. Many things make this
promoters property uniquely enjoyable for riders considering the
vast woods and mountain range. Also unique to this property is
the impact our event has on the grounds and groomed trail system
open 365 days a year. We bring a lot to this promoter with
exposure and gate fees, but the impact left behind must make it
difficult to justify the clean up, trail repair and campground
property damage. With the week of rain, we debated on delaying
the event but a moment of sunshine pushed us to reverse our
collective decision to delay in hopes of perfect track
conditions for all the racers. I can understand if this promoter
does not wish to continue to hold WNYOA races when considering
the weeks of repair that the weather caused, but I sincerely
hope all would like to see this location on next year’s
schedule knowing that rescheduling will be immediate at the
first sign of intense rain.
I would like to thank one
parent’s understanding when faced with the agonizing wait as
their frustrated Mini racer wandered in alone misguided by
course workers and spectators.
It takes a lot to reverse a complaint regarding your
child. Only a person with the highest character would go even
farther with an agreement to help next year to ensure the best
possible outcome for kids. This father understands and is
willing to help all of us create a better event. Thank you.
It is rewarding to see a
group of people come together to put on an event that pleases
the majority of riders. It’s equally enjoyable to see the
understanding of the participants knowing that we all did
everything we could with your enjoyment and safety in mind. Hats
off to every one of the individuals that labored and stressed
over the details impossible to comprehend until you invest weeks
of work preparing for a race.
Some course workers have
supported for 20+ years. Some have raced for years but missed
the learning opportunity and perspective of working an event.
The supportive comments when you are stressed and drenched with
sweat makes a worker’s day. Thank you. I have volunteered for
two years: Cutting out and designing single track, trail sweep,
traffic control, vendor negotiations, announcer, starter, and
event referee. For those that have not taken the opportunity you
will enjoy a new perspective with every race you attend
thereafter. You will have a stronger voice to better support
WNYOA. All those
“WHY” questions you have always asked will be understood
resulting in much less frustration during events. It feels good
to make a good day great for others. Please pick a promoter and
help them for a few years. It’s a big eye opener.
Special thanks to Rick
Anderson and his team for the intense effort cutting in miles of
single track and making the entire course safer since the first
day of preparing this year’s race.
On behalf of the entire
series, I would like to thank Dave Barnes for reluctantly giving
up the chance to race to give direction with all staging,
starting, scoring and protest advisement. On the fence as to
race with a slight injury, we persuaded him to take charge of
coordinating many of the details. Without his involvement, the
entire event could have had a very disappointing outcome.
Breaking his string of never missing a race in twelve
consecutive years, we feel not one is more deserving of the 25
points for helping a race.
Signed,
a
workers perspective
